Living in Hawaii means beach days are a regular part of life. Whether I’m heading out for a quick ocean dip after work or planning a full day of sun and snorkeling, there are a few must-haves I always bring with me. Here’s what I keep in my beach bag!
1. Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Protecting your skin and the ocean is so important in Hawaii. I always choose reef-safe options that are oxybenzone and octinoxate-free.

For spots like Electric Beach or Makua Beach, I never forget my mask and fins! The underwater life here is amazing.
6. Beach Mat or Blanket
I like to bring a foldable beach mat—it’s lightweight and keeps the sand off. Perfect for laying out with a book or just relaxing.
7. Waterproof Pouch
This keeps my phone, keys, and small items safe and dry. Super useful if I want to take photos near the water or paddle out a little.
8. Snacks or a Bento
Sometimes I pack fresh fruit or a little bento box for a simple beach picnic. There’s nothing better than eating while looking at the ocean!
9. Sunglasses & Hat
Don’t forget your shades! I go for polarized lenses for better visibility near the water. A wide-brim hat also helps protect my face from strong sun.
10. A Good Book or Playlist
Beach time is chill time. Whether I’m reading a novel or listening to my “Island Vibes” playlist, I always have something to help me relax.
