Sapporo Photo Diary – Day 1: Clock Towers, Ramen, and Quiet Paths

Arrival: 1:00 PM at New Chitose Airport

This was the start of my 3-night summer trip in Sapporo, and it couldn’t have begun more smoothly. The weather was clear, the city was calm, and I was ready to explore.

🚉 Arrival & Airbnb Check-in

After landing at New Chitose Airport, I hopped on the JR rapid train to Sapporo Station — only about 40 minutes. From there, it was a short walk to my Airbnb in the creative, central Kita 4 Jōhigashi area. Super convenient for exploring on foot!

Sapporo Station

🕰️ Sapporo Clock Tower

First stop: the Sapporo Clock Tower. It’s small but iconic — and surprisingly peaceful in the afternoon light. I snapped a few photos and admired the old-fashioned architecture, surrounded by the modern city.

🌳 Odori Park Stroll

From there, I walked through Odori Park, a long green stretch that cuts through the heart of Sapporo. Locals were relaxing on benches, kids were chasing pigeons, and the flowers were in full bloom.

🗼 Sapporo TV Tower

Just next to the park, the Sapporo TV Tower offered an amazing view as the sun started to lower. The observation deck gives you a straight-on look down Odori and out across the city.

🍜 Dinner: Miso Ramen at Sumire

What better way to end the day than with a hot bowl of rich miso ramen? I went to Sumire, one of Sapporo’s most well-known ramen shops. The broth was deep, the noodles chewy, and the whole vibe was perfect after a day of walking.

🌙 Evening Walk at Hokkaido University

Before heading back, I took a peaceful evening walk through the Hokkaido University campus. Wide tree-lined paths, soft lighting, and that lovely early-summer breeze made it the perfect way to close out Day 1.

🧳 Final Notes

Sapporo’s first impressions: quiet, creative, and walkable. Everything felt close and calm — a perfect introduction to Hokkaido. I couldn’t wait to see what Day 2 would bring ✨

📌 Tip: If you’re staying near Sapporo Station, everything in this post is walkable or just a short subway ride away.
